HAMBURGH
History: Little is known about the history of this breed, other than the spangled variety were bred in Yorkshire and Lancashire over three hundred years ago, as Pheasants and Mooneys.
Characteristics: A long body, wings large and neatly tucked. Tail long and sweeping and carried well up. A rose comb, neck covered with full and long feathers which hang well over the shoulders. The shanks are free of feathers. The comb, face and wattles are red and the legs and feet are blue.
Colours: Black, gold pencilled, silver pencilled, gold spangled, silver spangled.
At The Garden Hen we keep the gold pencilled variety which are bright red-bay/golden-chestnut, with each feather distinctly pencilled straight across with fine parallel lines of a rich green-black.
Why do we keep Hamburghs at The Garden Hen? They are a beautiful and bright bird.
